It’s the question that I get asked all the time at the moment. It’s the holy grail of current social media and means a lot if you are online.

Getting on IG explore will gain your picture’s more likes, more followers and hopefully some business or enquiries to boot! It’s also free to get on there; with no Instagram advertising fees, so yay!

As you well know if you read any of my other posts about social media >> algorithm; getting onto the Instagram explore page / Instagram explore tab is closely guarded by a same secret social media algorithm. BUT we can have a dig around and try to strategise some actions.

Let’s try to understand Instagram a bit more too…

This is going to get a little technical, so bear with me. Instagram’s Explore page evolved from the Popular or Discovery page, which displayed the most-liked content at the time of your visit (Twitter trends anyone?!). The issue with the popular page was that it failed to cater to specific users’ interests.

On the Explore page – the content presented is different for each user (a little like Google Search results, but let’s not get started on that one!).

Instagram’s Explore page comprises posts liked by people whose posts you’ve liked (their audience), posts from accounts similar to those that you follow, and posts with high engagement. In this way, Explore selects posts to show you, without being hemmed in by who you follow and what you claim to like.

By monitoring how you interact with Instagram, it is able to utilise its algorithm to select content whilst seeing how you use the app.

The Explore page also allows you to find Stories from accounts Instagram thinks you’ll find interesting and top live videos.

So how do you get on Instagram Explore? (More technical stuff!)

The main reason I can find, is that the Explore page includes content from people that you’re not following. Simple.

I would suggest using Places feature to look for the type of content being posted from other accounts and by your ‘competition’.

Keep an eye on this, carry on what you are doing (well) and it will happen eventually. My guess is a lot of people aren’t using the Explore anyway, so this education we’ll have to save for another day!
